Femme was founded by single mother-of-three Janis Tello, who had no formal design training but a drive to “create something out of nothing”. Born in Hollywood – “not the glitz and glamour version” – fashion was not on the radar of her family, of Colombian, Russian and Dominican descent. “Shelter and food were at the top of the list”. Her intrigue around the industry came “from playing with the one doll we were gifted each year, making her clothes and accessories to sketching things I only dreamed of having like gowns, shoes… dream cars, and homes.” Now, her customers have a combined Instagram following of billions.

FEMME LA currently owns and operates small factories within the US and overseas. They steer away from fast fashion sweatshops and primarily hand make orders as they come in. It is an eco & sustainable brand whose business model is to limit its own carbon footprint by producing only what is ordered and holding minimal stock.
